What is “eyebrow threading”?

Eyebrow threading is an ancient hair-removal technique, practiced for centuries among the most beautiful women of Asia and the Middle East. It is the best alternative to waxing and tweezing, especially for sensitive skin. Unlike waxing, threading does not remove a layer of skin, which can leave the skin on your face susceptible to sun damage. By far the least invasive method of facial hair removal, this method creates a graceful brow with clean, well-defined edges that frame the eye.

How does threading work?

Here at The Brow Boutique, a threading expert takes a thin cotton thread and twists it into a double strand, which then is swept along the skin. With rhythmic – almost hypnotic – movement, the unwanted hairs are secured in the thread and lifted from the follicle with precision and finesse.

Is eyebrow threading painful?

Many of our customers agree that threading causes less discomfort than brow waxing. Because it targets individual hairs, threading keeps skin irritation to a minimum. Excessive pulling on delicate skin around the eyes is eliminated, and for those sensitive to waxing or depilatory products, there is no exposure to irritants.

How long does threading take?

A simple eyebrow threading can take just 5-7 minutes. The upper lip takes about 3 minutes; a full face thread takes about 15-20 minutes.

Is threading better than waxing?

Yes threading is known to be a superior option to tweezing, sugaring or waxing. That’s why salons in the States have experienced an exponential growth in the demand for this service. This eastern method of hair removal involves less discomfort and eliminates the chance of your coming in contact with wax that is too hot for tender facial skin. Hair is removed from the root so there’s less of that “grow-back factor.” This extends the time between salon visits, saving time and money and maintenance in front of the mirror! …And, because of the precision involved, “threaders” can hone their artistry, creating perfect brows for everyone’s unique face shape and personality.

about-threading-2-smallWhat’s the main benefit of threading vs. other hair removal method?

Threading’s main benefit is the manner in which the eyebrow is shaped-not just from underneath, but also from the top. One of the major drawbacks of tweezing, especially when done at home, is that it’s easy to remove the wrong hairs, creating holes or divots in the shape of the brow. Certain thicker hairs on the bottom line of the brow act as supportive “scaffolding” for the entire brow, so if you inadvertently remove the wrong hairs, the whole shape collapses. Then you are left with trying to camouflage your goof until the hairs grow back. Threading eliminates this common mishap. Some of the other benefits are :

• Waxing can tug on, pull, stretch, and can peel off a layer of skin. Such harsh treatment can facilitate the development of wrinkles. With threading, there is none of that. You’ll simply look smooth, refreshed and hair-free.

• Less messy and time consuming than waxing.

• 100% natural; no artificial waxes, chemicals or invasive techniques used

• Hair does not grow back as fast.

• The skin doesn’t usually get red and irritated.

• Threading can target individual hairs.

• Hair only needs to grow just above the skin to get threaded.

• Over time, hair becomes finer and more sparse.

• Threading will pick up the finest hairs from the surface of the skin.

• Excellent option for those who use RetinA, and Accutane. Dermatologist recommended!

• 100% suitable for skin that is too sensitive for waxing or laser hair removal

• Many people who breakout from waxing tend not to breakout from threading

• Inexpensive alternative to waxing or laser

How long does threading last?

Depending on your hair type and area of the face, full re-growth can be anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks. Hair will start to grow back sparse and finer after repeated threading because hair is pulled out at the root, which gets weakened through this process. You can get re-threaded as soon hair grows just above the skin, whereas with waxing the hair needs to be at least 2/8” long before it can be removed again.

If I get my full face threaded, will the hair grow back darker?

No. Since hairs are being removed from the root they actually tend to grow back finer over time.

Why does the threader put the thread in her mouth?

The thread must be pulled taut in order to accurately and precisely remove each hair. However, the thread that touches the threader’s mouth never touches your face.

Is it okay to get threaded if you have sensitive skin?

Yes. Threading is dermatologist recemmonded especially for skin that uses retin-A or accutane. The great news is that threading affects the skin less than other removal methods. However it is normal to experience a little pinkness at site, but it should subside in 10-15 minutes. In rare cases, the area may remain red for 30 minutes to an hour. Majority of people who suffer breakouts from waxing or harsh depilatory creams will find relief after switching to threading. If you think your skin is is extra sensitive, we recommend not using the lotion or aloe gel that your threading expert usually applies, instead rub an ice cube on the threaded area for 10 minutes and pat dry it and refrain from using any face products for a few hours until the area is less sensitive.

Can I specify how I want my brows shaped?

Yes! Before you begin, let your threading expert know how you want your brows shaped and how thick or thin you’d like them.

My brows don’t have a natural arch, is it possible to get them shaped that way?

Absolutely, but be aware that to create an arched look, our threading expert will need to remove more hair which creates a thinner brow. If you want a thicker brow shaped to your natural contours, we don’t recommend the arched look.

I over tweezed. How long should I wait before my next threading appointment?

Although hair can be removed once it’s grown above the surface of the skin, we recommend waiting for about two weeks to give your eyebrows a chance to grow back in so our threading expert can give you the shape you want. You can come in anytime for a “clean up.”

What should I do to prepare for threading?

Let your hair grow just above the skin and you’re ready. If you want a new or different shape to your brows, let them grow a bit more but do not tweeze them so our threading expert can see their natural shape before suggesting the best shape for your face.

I have acne. Is threading OK?

Yes. There should be no side effects whatsoever. As a matter of fact, the majority of people that experience breakouts after waxing find that threading does not have the same effect. It’s totally hygienic, so don’t have any fears about trying this service.

Can men be threaded too?

Yes! In fact, we encourage eyebrow threading for men because it maintains the natural look of a man’s eyebrow, without appearing overdone or even done at all. Whether you want to separate a unibrow or thin out bushy brows, threading will give you a clean brow line that’s perfect for your next date, headshot or important interview.

Is it safe to get threaded after cosmetic surgery?

Check with your doctor about the specific healing time for your procedure and inquire how long you should wait until to resume threading.

Should I have my eyebrows threaded before or after tanning?

Tanning before a facial threading is okay. However, the skin is too sensitive immediately after threading to be exposed to a tanning bed. It is a good idea to wait at least 48 hours after having your eyebrows threaded before tanning.
